Course Overview


Live online 6 week course with focus on setting up successful CBT methods for your patients. This course will give you a comprehensive set of tools to enhance your treatment of: depression, anxiety, and habits/addictions with state of the art CBT. You will learn how to create and use powerful thought logs with your patients, then transform them into cognitive role playing methods for the treatment of depression, various exposure methods for anxiety, and the addiction/habit log and devil’s advocate technique for the treatment of habits/addictions. During this course there will be many opportunities for practice and role-playing. 

Attendance at all 6 sessions and completion of CE survey after this course is required to receive CE certificate of completion.

Completion of this course provides units towards Level 1, 2, or 3 TEAM-CBT certification. Note, there are additional requirements for Levels 2 and 3 Certification which can be found on the Certification Requirements Table.

Following completion of this 6-week course you will be able to:
  1. Use daily mood logs effectively to set up multiple cognitive behavioral techniques
  2. Describe the use of cognitive distortions on the daily mood log
  3. Demonstrate a cognitive role playing technique
  4. Describe the rationale for exposure in treating anxiety disorders
  5. Design exposure exercises to treat anxiety
  6. Explain the concept of interoceptive exposure
  7. Describe cognitive exposure
  8. Identify and change positive distortions in tempting thoughts in the treatment of habits and addictions
  9. Describe the devil’s advocate technique for treating habits and addictions

Session 1: The Art of the Setup: The Daily Mood Log, Eliciting Negative Thoughts, Rules for Negative Thoughts, Identifying Cognitive Distortions, The Straightforward Technique. 

Session 2: Truth- and Logic-Based Techniques: Examine the Evidence, Re-attribution, Be Specific and Let’s Define Terms.

Session 3: Cognitive Role Playing Techniques: The Double Standard Technique & Externalization of Voices Technique.

Session 4: Introduction to Exposure Therapy for Anxiety Disorders.  Psycho-education on the nature of anxiety. The rationale for exposure. Types of exposures: cognitive exposure, interoceptive exposure, situational exposure. Tips for introducing and conducting situational exposures. Building an exposure hierarchy.

Session 5: Interoceptive Exposure and Cognitive Exposure for Anxiety Disorders: Symptom induction, interoceptive exposure, and cognitive exposure.

Session 6: Identify and Change “Tempting Thoughts” in Habits and Addictions: Use of the Addiction/Habit Log, identify positive distortions and the Devil’s Advocate Technique.

Instructor Biography

Dr. Jill Levitt is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and the Director of Training at the Feeling Good Institute in Mountain View, CA. Dr. Levitt has almost 20 years of experience conducting Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and has been trained by some of the world’s leaders in CBT. She has co-written several scholarly articles in the areas of OCD, PTSD and Panic Disorder. Most recently she has been co-teaching CBT with Dr. David Burns at the Stanford University School of Medicine in her role on the Adjunct Clinical Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She also trains other therapists in David Burns’ model of CBT called TEAM-CBT Therapy. She is a certified Level 5 Master Therapist and Trainer in TEAM-CBT Therapy. Dr. Levitt teaches both in-person and online workshops for Feeling Good Institute on CBT methods, reducing resistance in psychotherapy, and improving the effectiveness of psychotherapy.

Refunds are available for cancelations outside of a 14-day window prior to the beginning of a training event or course. All refunds are subject to a $50 processing fee. Within a 14-day window prior to the beginning of a training event or course, no refunds are available. For cancelations within this window, credit may be applied towards a future similar training within a year of the original purchase date.
