About My Practice

Hello and Welcome!

I am a New England-based Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with over 12 years of experience in counseling and therapy. I have skills primarily in emotional issues, such as depression and anxiety, as well as issues surrounding self-esteem, stress, boundaries, self-care, maternal and parenting issues, and family/relationship dynamics. I also worked for several years in Medical Social Work, specifically HIV/AIDS case management and Hospice Care, and have considerable experience in healthcare and end-of-life emotional support. I graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from Goucher College in 2001, an M.A. in Psychology from Hunter College in 2006, and an MSW (Masters of Social Work) from the University of New Hampshire in 2008, and became an LICSW in 2010.

I identify my approach to therapy as generally psychodynamic in nature, however I also utilize TEAM Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and empathetic, solution-focused techniques. I find focusing on self-worth, boundaries, and changing disruptive thought patterns and narratives to be very useful in bringing about significant change in one’s life. I find much value in building and nurturing a supportive relationship between therapist and client; I believe this relationship to be absolutely essential to the process of healing and growing in therapy. I strongly believe that trust and consistent support are essential. As a social worker in training, I believe in client self-determination and the inherent dignity and worth of every person. As such, I acknowledge that you are the expert in your own individual experiences, feelings, agenda, and goal-setting. With that said, I define my role as more of a collaborator, support, and sometimes-educator in the therapeutic process.
