Session 3: The Exposure Model
Rationale for Exposure, Interoceptive Exposure, The Fear and Avoidance Hierarchy, Identifying Safety Behaviors, Conducting Exposures
 
Learning objectives:

1)   Boost motivation by helping patients identify their reasons not to change.
2)   Motivate patients to become accountable for the work required to overcome their anxiety. 
3)   Identify cognitive distortions in anxious thoughts.
4)   Set up the “examine the evidence” truth based technique.
5)   Deliver the “externalization of voices” cognitive role play technique.
6)   Set up exposure exercises with patients with anxiety disorders.
7)   Identify safety behaviors in anxious patients.

The Addiction/Habit Mood Log, Discovering Tempting Thoughts, Identifying Positive Cognitive Distortions, The Devils’ Advocate Technique, and The Accountability Step
 
Session 3. Behavioral Methods for Treating Habits and Addictions
Stimulus Control, The Problem-Solution Log, and The Anti-Procrastination Worksheet
 
Learning Objectives:
After completing this workshop you will be able to:
 
1) Complete a paradoxical cost-benefit analysis with a patient to decrease resistance. 
2) Describe the concepts of dangling the carrot and sitting with open hands to boost motivation. 
3) Identify several tempting thoughts.
4) Name at least two cognitive distortions.
5) Explain the concept and practice of stimulus control.
6) Set up a problem-solution log.
